We are Finance Houses Association of Nigeria, the umbrella, self-regulatory body of all CBN-licensed finance companies operating in Nigeria.  The association, with a membership strength of fifty eight (58) finance companies was formed on the 11th day of April, 1989  as a professional trade group to advance the business interests of its members, institute sound and ethical corporate governance practices, maintain a standard of conduct for operators, and ensure members’ compliance with statutory regulatory requirements

The first exploratory meeting of a group of Chief Executives of Finance Companies operating in Nigeria to deliberate on a proposal – promoted by Equity and Trust Finance Company Limited, under the untiring initiative of its then Managing Director, Mr Joseph M.A. Igbon – to form the association, was held on Tuesday 1stSeptember, 1987 at the boardroom of Equity and Trust Finance Company Limited.  At the meeting, a planning committee of ten (10) was set up to develop a frame work for the formation of the association. These include the following:

2.   Dr C.P Ezeife representing Basic Finance Limited
3.   Mr F. Ejeckam representing First City Finance Co. Limited
4.   Mr M.A Nwogbo representing Summit Finance Limited
5.   Miss B.O Idah representing Ernok Finance Limited
6.   Mr S.O Ogundipe representing Prudent Finance Limited
7.   Mr Fred Agbeyegbe representing Facet Finance Limited
8.   Mr A.K.U Opia representing Apex Finance Limited
9.   Mr Y. Majekodunmi representing Nationwide Finance Limited
10. Mr J.M.A Igbon representing Equity and Trust Finance Co. Limited
